WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND HOW DOES THAT AFFECT YOUR MUSIC?
I’m from Isoko, Delta State and grew up in Warri. My background has a lot to do with my sound, especially starting in the industry. We have beautiful and rich cultural music in the South of Nigeria and I grew up absorbing all of that; from local tapes my mom bought to the the traditional music playing in a shop on my street as I rode my bicycle.
WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST MUSIC INFLUENCES?
They are a lot, Yanni, Coldplay, Sia, Abba (Music Group), Asa, Rihanna
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC?
I have a vast background in music so I listen to genres like New Age, pop, folk, soul, house, Celtic music etc
WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION?
I find inspiration from life itself. My pain, joy from other peoples lives too.
WHEN IS YOUR FAVORITE TIME OF THE DAY TO CREATE MUSIC?
This is funny, I get inspired in the bathroom and while doing the dishes. But night time (from 12am-5am) is my favorite time to put the Melodies into a song.
HOW MUSIC IS IMPORTANT TO THE SOCIETY?
Music can inspire people in different ways. It can help build a community of hope, help people understand their emotions and express them and more.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO CREATE MUSIC?
Life motivates me. My experiences and what I see others experience pushes me to want to put it in a song to express myself or help tell someone else’s story; be it from my perspective of theirs.
HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS AS AN ARTISTE?
To me success as an artist is when your music can touch people and inspire them. You see it, they sing it and express it. That’s my version.
DOES MUSIC HELP YOU IN OTHER AREAS OF YOUR LIFE?
Music helps me in all areas of my life. It’s what makes me tick.
HOW DO YOU DEVELOP YOUR MUSIC SKILLS?
I listen to a ton of beautiful music from different genres and try to be better at communicating what I want to say every time I write.

WHEN DID YOU START WORKING AS A PROFESSIONAL ARTISTE?
I started performing at concerts at the age of 12.
WHAT'S THE GLOBAL PURPOSE OR GOAL OF YOUR WORK?
I just want to inspire people with good music.
HOW CAN YOUR MUSIC AFFECT SOCIETAL ISSUES?
Well, whether I write a song that talks about a specific issue or not, I believe a good song that keeps people singing and dancing does a lot of good for society already. At least I have been fortunate to hear people reach out to tell me how one of my songs gave them peace of mind or kept them happy all day.
HOW DO YOU NAVIGATE THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?
It’s not easy being independent. You have to pay for things yourself and keep pushing with or without support from others in the industry, whether you’re good at what you do or not.
WHICH ART TRENDS INSPIRE YOUR WORKS?
Visual art, photography, textured, abstract art all do. Generally, I am drawn to art; whether it be on a canvas or naturally existing in the sky or ground. Most times, I make memories with my camera.
HOW HAS YOUR STYLE CHANGED OVER TIME?
I don’t describe my style as totally girly. I sometimes go for edgy looks as much as sexy (minimal). If I feel comfortable in it and it’s classy, I’m good.
DO YOU HAVE A NETWORK OF OTHER ARTISTES AND HOW DO THEY SUPPORT YOU?
I have a few. But we are all independent.
WHAT CRITIC HAVE PEOPLE SAID ABOUT YOUR WORK?
I take all kinds of criticism. It makes me better.
Some compare me with other Simi and others complain I don’t drop enough songs but that’s okay. I try not to over think things
WHAT FACTORS INFLUENCE THE PRICE OF YOUR WORK?
Being a Nigerian influences the price of my work. It goes with the economy. Hehe. Honestly, I don’t find my work a mediocre one, and I put a lot of blood and sweat into it. I am fortunate to have really talented and beautiful people as a part of my team. So with all that considered, the price of my work is influenced by the amount of love and work I put into it.
WHAT'S YOUR ULTIMATE CAREER GOALS?
To keep making good music until I turn gray, reach out to more people across the world and have my songs sung long after I am gone.
HOW DO YOU MANAGE WORK-LIFE BALANCE AS AN ARTISTE?
Being an artist is my life. I make it happen.
HOW HAVE YOU DEVELOPED YOUR MUSIC SO FAR?
I have been fortunate to tour the United States with Simi and met amazing people that have inspired me and that I am working with, both home and abroad.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO MAKE AND SELL MUSIC?
Besides the fact that it’s my passion, I wanna make money too. Like how everyone else does with their job.
WHAT'S YOUR DREAM PROJECT?
My dream project would be having amazing artists like Sia, Ed sheeran collaborate with me.
